I used ewido to deworm my computer, nyxem.e and I prefered to delete it
rather than quarantine it. It seems to have deleted the wininet.dll
file, rstrui, justched, dwwin and a few others. i have tried to restore
from a windows cd but the dvd-rom appears to be unable to detect a
windows disk. Is there a way to get these files or download them from
somewhere else.

I am considering loading the windows setup disk via network onto the
hard disk, but I suspect that Windows will still look to the dvd for
the windows file? How can I do this?

There is also the issue of the Windows version. It is an original
version without any service packs on it. Will the service pack 2 disks
work with it?

I'd prefer to know the actual version of windows I am using and
download the original files. How can I do that?

Barring that I'd rather upgrade to Windows XP 2 if it can be done
without affecting the existing program installations. The only problem
is that it is a cd based upgrade rather than an online upgrade and I
wonder if that can work without trashing my current system
configuration.

To learn your SP version in XP : winkey+ pause/break key.

Fix/replace the broken optical drive, slipstream SP2 into you original
CD and do a repair install.

Do backup any important data before doing a repair install just in case....
should you decide on that route.
