How to restore Deleter Administrator account

On my XP home, SP2, machine, the only administrator user account was
accitently deleted. Now it only has a user with limited permissions. With
this account I have no internet access. How do I restore the deleted
administrator account or create a new administrator account?

Boot into Safe Mode and logon with the built-in Administrator
account. You can then go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and
create a new account that is a Computer Administrator or change
the Limited account to admin.

To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck

It's an account that's created when XP is first installed. It's normally
not visible under the normal welcome screen (if that's how you login), but
it shows up in safe mode. If you are logging in with the user prompt (enter
name/password style) then you can just type in Administrator as the user.
I'm not sure how this process works with OEM versions pre-installed on
computers, as I've never seen such an install where the user creates the
Administrator account.

Thanks,

If there is no Administrator accout set up, am I SOL?

Is there a way to display the "hidden" accounts? I would like to find
out if an Administrator account is set up on the PC.

Every XP system has an account named Administrator. With XP
Home Edition, this account is hidden and can only be accessed
in Safe Mode. When you boot into Safe Mode, you should see
Administrator listed on the Welcome Screen. Click on that icon
and log on with that account.

What happened when you tried to boot into Safe Mode? If Windows
is automatically logging you on with the limited account go to
Start -> Log off and select Log off. This should cause the
Welcome Screen to be displayed. Is the Administrator account
listed on the Welcome Screen?

Thanks,

Yes it is there when I am in safe mode. I tried it on my old PC.

I had to try this on my old PC because I have a wireless keyboard
and cannot get into safe mode without changing the keyboard.

It is my 13 year old daughter's friend that is having the problem. I will
try the fix the next time I am able to go to her house.

Thanks again for your help
