How to restore data to Outlook 2002 using a 'backuppst' file

I have destroyed my data on Outlook during a failed sync with Palm pilot.
Cannot open my backup file and restore the data including contacts.
Outlook 2002.
data file s called 'backuppst'
Any suggestions - read the web pages and all say this is easy but i am
unable to follow the instructions. Boxes to click simply not there on my
computer.
