PCInspector has a free demo but is not a freeware app. The below is.
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home

Where does it state that it is not FREEWARE? Most of the site
( http://www.pcinspector.de/) states that the software is free,
freeware and there are no prices. If you go over to the "corporate"
sute, then they will charge you.

BTW: Make sure you have enough had drive space to receive the
recovered files and be ready to "rename" the recovered files.

The Demo is free and will find your deleted files. You need to register
and pay to activate the program to undelete any found files.

You are sadly mistaken! Smart Recovery (http://www.pcinspector.de/
smart_media_recovery/uk/welcome.htm) is not a DEMO version nor does it
"nag" you to register/pay for recoveries. Most of PC Inspector's
utilities are "volunteerwares." That is to say, you are encouraged
the donate so as to help improve the softwares. The software will
recover the erased files.
