How to replace symbol ?

when i use the fuction "find and replace" , i discoverd
that it cannot replace some symbol such as "? " , "*" with
another word !

so anyone can tell what i can do if i got a file with many
of these symbol inside the wordings and i want to remove
all these symbol!
