I have a problem that when I try to launch Microsoft
Internet Explorer the bottom status bar
flickers "searching for toolbar2.i-lookup.com" and then
freezes. I've run McAfee and cert.org virus scans and
Adaware and Spybot spyware scans to clean my computer.
But the probem persisted.
So, following the advice of an AOL tech, I was told that
if I go to Start/Control Panels/Internet Options/Add or
Remove Program that if I clicked on Add/Remove or
Change/Remove for IE that an option to select "Repair
Internet Explorer" would appear.
IE did not appear in my programs list, so I could not try
to "repair" it. AOL says in this case to contact
Microsoft for further assistance. Any ideas?
Also, on Microsoft Web site, article 318378 describes how
to reinstall or repair IE in Windows XP. However, one
basically ends up having to modify the Windows Registry
and reinstalling IE or running sfc /scannow and if this
does not fix the problem, to do an in-place
upgrade/repair of Windows XP. Is this really my last
resort?
Thanks!
