how to remove update

We have a mixed network (1 x WinXP, 1 x Win 2K, 5 x Win98) where all users
connect to an Access 2000 database on one of the Win98 machines.
Knowledge Base article 209137 states the importance of matched versions of
Jet to avoid corruption (which we now have).
All but the XP station now have jet version 4.0.8015.0 but the XP has
4.0.8618.0. This latest version is not available for the Win98 machines, so
how do we downgrade the XP station?
Security Bulletin MS04-104 says that the update (837001) can be removed with
Add/Remove Programs, but hotfix 837001 doesn't appear in the list! This
approach did work on the Win2K station.
It's also not in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows
XP\SP2\KB837001\Filelist as indicated in the security bulletin.

Any ideas on how to get the elusive update for '98 or remove it for XP?

Hi,

If you have installed SP2 on the WinXP computer, you will not be able
to uninstall 837001, because it is included in SP2.

and reading the FAQ section at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-014.mspx
it looks like there is no update available for Win98.

So it looks like I'm out of luck? This seems to say that it is not possible
to run Access on a network with 98 and 2000 and XP.
Could it be that having 4.0.8xxx.0 is a close enough match? Before our
problems began, the Win98 machines were at 4.0.2927.

I would suggest that you post your original question to one of the
newsgroups that deal with Microsoft Access such as
microsoft.public.access

If you cannot do this then post a response back here and I will try to
relay your concerns to an MVP for Access.

Good luck
