How to remove the orphaned domain from the forest?

Hi there,

The situation is, we have three different domains that are
a.com(forest root), b.com(tree root) and c.com(tree root).
for some reason, domain c.com becomes orphaned doamin.
only one DC in c.com, the trust relationship is broken
we want to de-promote the domain, then promote again.

Firstly, I tried to use DCPROMO, get the following error:
"the directory service failed to replicate off changes
made locally"

Secondly, I tried using Ntdsutil metadata cleanup to
remove the domain, also get error message:
DsRemoveDsDomainW error 0x20ab
When I did this, I follow KB Q216498

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
