How to remove the old machine accounts in Active Directory

Hi
How to figure out in the Active directory if ther
computer account is active or not. we recently changed the
name of lots of our client machines, but AD is also
showing old machine names in the AD users and computers.
is there anyway we can tell AD to clean up the computer
accounts which are not active.
