How to remove leading zeros using excel 2000

nI wish to remove the leading zeros from a column of numbers in an Excel 2000
spreadsheet.
Excel 2003 handles this easily but I need to be able to do the same thing in
excel 2000.
Would appreciate your comments.

If you have numbers, rather than text, XL2000 should work the same as XL2003.
What are you doing in 2003 that doesn't work in 2000?

Try ASAP Utilities, a free add-in available at asap-utilities.com It h as a
feature that will do this for you.

Thanks Fred,
2003 has a drop down box alongside the cell to convert numbers formatted as
'text' to numbers which deletes the leading zeros.
I cannot find this same functionality in 2000.

Try this............

Format the cells to General.

Copy an empty cell.

Select your range of data and Paste Special>Add>OK>Esc.

Your "text" numbers will be "real" numbers without the zeros.

No, you don't have that in XL2000 (thank goodness! -one reason I
haven't upgraded). There are many other ways of doing this, though -
Text to Columns, reformatting the cells then adding 0 to them (or
multiplying by 1 using copy/paste special), using the =VALUE( )
function. Look through similar postings on the site.
