Hi!

On HP Compaq notebooks (e.g. nx and nc series) with OEM MS Windows XP
installed there is a default background image that is shown on the
desktop before user logs in to Windows.

Is there a way to remove that image besides deleting corresponding BMP
file in Windows directory?

This image is annoying when you want to log in to Windows XP remotely
using Remote Desktop or RealVNC because the image must be shown first
and it loads slowly if you use a slow network connection.

TIA

Annoying, innit?

1. Open Regedit on the workstation(s).

2. Go to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop.

3. Look for the Wallpaper value in the right-hand pane. It will
probably point to something like C:\WINDOWS\system32\whatever.BMP.

4. Double-click on the Wallpaper value.

5. Delete the contents and click OK.

6. Close Regedit.
