using xp home sp1, dell desktop purchased 4-2004. many photos have been set
as backrounds in one of my 3 users, probably accidentially. is there a way
to delete them from the desktop list in display properties? i tried
searching in xp's help & microsoft knowledge base with no success. any help
greatly appreciated! thank you, len kiesling

They are probably in the "My Pictures" folder. All of the pics in that
folder are listed, unless they are in a subdirectory of that folder.

Hi Leonard,

The pictures that show up under display properties, desktop are located in
these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

If your settings are set to view hidden files: Go to Start/Run and type in:
"%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer"

Under My Computer scroll down to Shared Documents/Shared Pictures. If
Shared Pictures is listed, remove it.

TweakUI for XP: Unchecking "Lock Web Content" under Explorer to be added
to desktop disables the pictures from being listed.

Workarounds:

Create another folder (under your user profile), remove the pictures from My
Pictures that you don't want listed under Backgrounds and in the My Pictures
folder, create a shortcut to the new folder. Or create subfolders within My
Pictures.

Add Folders to the "Save As" Dialog (Places Bar) Line 117

Disable Default Save As to My Pictures (Line 263)

Add Folder to Start Menu to replace/re-route My Pictures (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

thanks for reply! yes, the image files listed in display properties-desktop
are in "my pictures", however, some are in subfolders. photos inside
subfolders are listed seperately in the display properties-desktop. the
other 2 users have several image/photo files & subfolders containing many
image/photo files, but they're not listed in their display
properties-desktop choices. strange?
i appreciate your reply, & gladly welcome any other input as to removing the
image files listed in display properties-desktop. my reason for wanting
removal is the list is too long in the display properties-desktop list.
thankyou, len kiesling
