How to remove 9600XT push pins

This newbie wants to know exactly how to safely remove the stock ATI
heatsink with the two "push pins" from an ATI 9600XT video card.
I understand the push (insert) part.... but how do you remove?
I`m thinking of replacing a bad fan with a Vantec heatsink AND fan instead
of just replacing the bad fan.

On the front of the card, each pin has a little insert that keeps the pin
expanded. Pull out the inserts, then flip the card over, squeeze the pins,
and back them out.
