I uninstall and reinstall Outlook 2007. Now the index seems not complete and i cannot use the Instant Search. Many emails are missing from the result output. Looks to me that the index is not complete or corrupted.

PS. i am running Outlook 2007 on Vista so it is not possible to install WDS v3 beta.

Control Panel | Indexing Options | Advanced.

Vista Beta 2 includes WDS. You don't need to install anything extra.

If I double click on Indexing Options I am given an inert screen. It says
that it is waiting for status update, but shows no sign of life even if I
click on “How does indexing affect searches?†The only thing it will respond
to is the “Close†button. I gather that without this option available, I have
no chance of solving the Instant Search problem. Again, it worked for a the
first few days and then went dead. Is there any point to downloading Office
2007 again? What are the hazards?

You can try running the Office Diagnostics program, which will repair a number of problems with your installation.
