In PowerPoint, you could use Picture Placeholders, but they may not crop the
way you want.
The other option is to insert an autoshape -- probably a rectangle -- sized
the way you want the image sized. Fill the shape with an image. Then
CTRL+Shift+Drag to create the duplicate next to the original. Fill that
shape with a different image.
Need to know which version of PPT you're using to tell you the steps to fill
the shape.
You need to ask about Word in the Word groups. Better mention your version
of Word when you do. ;-)
