Compare side-by-side

I swear that in the past I could set up two PowerPoint docs side by side and
they would scroll together. It was some kind of toolbar named "Compare
side-by-side" or something like that.

I know how to Arrange All, but it would be a big help if I could scroll them
together.

Any suggestions?

Woofhorn,
I could be wrong but I think this is only possible in Word and not in
PowerPoint.

You can use "Shortcuts for PowerPoint" add-in from
http://officeone.mvps.org/ppshortcuts/ppshortcuts.html. It allows you to
define keyboard shortcuts to navigate back and forth in all open
presentations. So, if you have two PPTs open side-by-side (through Arrange
All), you can use (for instance) Right Arrow for next slide on both the PPTs
and Left Arrow for previous slide on both PPTs if you define it that way.

Hi Chirag,
I am having the same problem as Woofhorn. The problem with your solution is
that it depends on being able to have two PPTs open side-by-side; but that IS
the problem for me. I'm using Vista and Office 2007, and I cannot open two
PPT decks side-by-side and compare them (I can do so with Word, not Excel).
Most frustrating and time wasting.

And isn't Powershow only for use with two monitors/ to run multiple
presentations on multiple monitors? I'm only working on my laptop, trying to
compare an older presentation with a new one, and I have to constantly flip
back and forth.

Hi,

To arrange 2 PPTs side-by-side when using Office 2007 on Vista, open the 2
PPTs and select "Arrange All" button on the "View" tab. The view that you
now get is the same as you would get when using previous PowerPoint
versions.

You are right about PowerShow - it is for slide shows: multiple slide shows
on 1 monitor, different slide shows on different monitors, slide shows
spanning across multiple monitors, etc.

Chirag: I tried your suggestion and downloaded "Shortcuts for PowerPoint"
(which was a great find) but I'm still having trouble. I couldn't find "next
slide" or "previous slide" on the "customize shortcut menus." Do I need to
write my own macro? I actually tried to create a macro to move from one
slide to the next but I can't seem to make it work. Any help you could
provide would be greatly appreciated.

Do the following:
1. Select "Tools" | "Customize Shortcuts..." menu item.
2. Select "Shortcuts for PowerPoint" category.
3. Locate and select "Next slide on all open presentations" command.
4. Assign a key combination for this command.
5. Locate and select "Previous slide on all open presentations" command.
6. Assign a key combination for this command.
7. Click OK button.

Great! You solved the problem :) The free download of Shortcuts did not
contain the "next slide or previous slide" options so based on your
explanation I figured I needed to buy the entire package. I bought it and
your solution works better than expected. Thanks.
