How to push DHCP server updates to clients

B

bcao

We had already set the DHCP server and the leased time is around 2
days. but now we had make some changes in the DHCP(change the DNS
server address).

But all of our clients will not get the update DNS address unless they
do the ipconfig/renew. but now we have lots of PCs in our intranet, is
there any way to refresh the clients one time?

Thanks

Reboot the client PCs, that's the only way to force the update ahead of
their scheduled renewal time.

Richard is right in principle but you can also just use:

ipconfig /renew

You must however 'visit' each PC (even if that means getting
them to run a batch file remotely.)

There is no (particular) need to reboot them.

I'm not sure but I think you can also unplug and replug the network cable of every computer.
It should also work if you power off and on the switch they are connected to.

Why would that work? I suppose you are saying that
this cause a renewal? Are you sure? I have never heard
of that but maybe it has escaped me....(or been added in
some OS version.)

And even if it did, how would unplugging each computer be easier than just
running the renewal?

He also mentioned to power off the switch.... (and power on ofcourse)
