How to publish a subsite?

Guest

Hi. I'm trying to publish a subsite that I can use as a membership only part
of my overall site. When I try to publish it, it doesn't offer the publish
option. The subsite has its own index page, will that cause a problem?
Thanks! Bob

Please provide the steps you are taken from when you first open FP.

After it opens, I click publish site and get connected. I then click on the
subsite that I'm trying to publish but the option to publish isn't available,
it's grayed out. I really appreciate your time and help! Bob

You need to first open the subsite on your local, then click File Menu | Publish Site.

Your web host must allow your to create and publish subsites/subwebs.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! IT WORKED! I'm now going to try and password protect the
subsite. Do you have any tips on doing that? I have FP 03 for Dummies that
says to open the remote site in FP and click on tools - server- permissions.
Does that sound right to you? Thanks again for all of your help and time! Bob

Yes, but again this is something that your web host must allow.

When I click on tools - server - permissions I get an error message that says
"A World Wide Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, is required
to use this feature." I tried it with IE open and still get the same message.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Bob

Sound like your web host doesn't allow you to set permissions on their servers.

Also, you can not set it locally under Windows XP Pro / IIS.
