how to prevent duplicate message in a PST for Two Different Computers?

I tried to synchronize my email through copying a PST from my desktop to my
laptop. but when I opened the PST in outlook2003 on my laptop and connected
to internet, outlook always downloaded all the message again even if PST has
all these messages. so I have to delete all the duplicate message. it is a
pain to do it manually everyday.

I think one way is to delete the message on server once it is downloaded to
local computer. but I can not do it since I need to keep some important
messages on server.

any comment is highly appreciated.

Each machine keeps track on its own what messages have been downloaded and
that information is not contained in the PST, so that's why you see messages
downloaded by one machine being downloaded by the other as well, even though
the messages are already in the PST. I think that if you're going to
persist in syncing as you are (and it's certainly one way to do it), then
you'll need to buy a duplicate elimination program. They're not very
expensive.

Can one not just go to wherever Outlook stores its records of what messages
have been downloaded and syncrhonize that file too? Where is that file?
If for some reason they can't be copied over, then what is a duplicate
elimination program and where can you get one?

I don't know where that cache is stored.

Do you or anyone else know if some of these Outlook Synchronization programs
are able to actually move that cache (along with updating the pst) and
therefore prevent the double download at the fresh computer?
It might be the better route to go than me trying to move the pst from
computer to computer and running the duplication eliminator. However I
wouldn't want to put out money for another sync program only to find out it
didn't move the download cache.
