Hi,

How do you keep an update from reinstalling itself after
it is removed? Update KB912812 prevents IE from
saving some web pages for some of us. Removing it
fixes the IE problem temporarily but the update
reinstalls itself (at shutdown?) and the IE problem
returns.

Thanks,
Gary

Well you can turn off automatic updates for one and tell it to notify you
whenever an update is available before downloading it. Go To: Start >
Control Panel > Security Center > Click Automatic Updates on bottom > Click
the third radio button that says Notify me but don't download or install >
click apply and ok.

Good Luck

Setting auto-update to manual can be accomplished by clicking on the Control Panel, System,
Properties. Disabling Automatic Updates under Administrative Tools, Services

PS: After configuring AU to "Notify Only" or "Download but don't install",
decline the update and hide it.

Yes, I know about that. The "Notify but don't ..." option did not
prevent the update from reinstalling itself. Turning automatic updates
off entirely causes XP to nag when I boot plus I really rather having
them automatic. Further, eventually I will have to update and that
update will still be around to install itself.

So, how do I kill just that one update?

Thanks for the responses so far,
Gary

Set Automatic Update to download but allowing you to choose what and
when to install and you will see an option to not download an update
again with that process.

Alias

Select Notify Only or Download But Do Not Install option > Decline the
update > Hide it.
