How to prevent a DVD playback sticking?

Hello
1. How to retain a high sound volume level when unchecking the "Use Hardware
Decode Acceleration" in the WinDVD 5 properties? The sound volume level
drops two times when unchecking.
2. How to eliminate an image trembling at playback especially noticed at the
borders with the horizontal black bars? The image trembles only when "Use
Hardware Decode Acceleration" is checked in the WinDVD 5 properties.
3. How to prevent a DVD playback sticking some times when "Use Hardware
Decode Acceleration" is checked in the WinDVD 5 properties? A CD/RW drive is
a secondary IDE master. The DVD drive is a secondary IDE slave. The CD/RW
drive manufacturers recommend setting CD/RW drives as master. A CD/RW drive
is a write and read device and a DVD drive is a read device only.
Where could I get answers to these questions?

Hi,

Hi,

Usually the DVD rom has a faster transfer rate than the CD/RW (DMA mode 5 for DVD rom and DMA 2 or 3 or event PIO mode for the CD/RW)

I would suggest you to change the jumper setting for the DVD rom as master and CD/RW as slave. Then boot into BIOS and enable the DMA mode for the secondary IDE master and slave drivers to DMA mode.

As for your current setting, the DMA mode of the DVD rom is limited to the DMA mode of the CD/RW by using a 40 Pin IDE cable. It means that if the transfer rate of the CD/RW is only DMA mode 2 or 3 or event worse at PIO mode only, your DVD rom cannot run at DMA mode 5. This is the cause of your problems.

Hello
The maximum transfer rate for my DVD ROM LG GDR 8161B is UDMA 33. The
transfer rate for the secondary IDE slave is UDMA mode 2 (I think UDMA mode
2 is the UDMA 33) in the Device manager. The transfer rate for the
secondary IDE master is Multi-Word DMA mode 2 in the Device manager. The
UDMA mode 2 is higher than Multi-Word DMA mode 2 that's why I think that the
DMA mode of the DVD ROM is not limited to the DMA mode of the CD/RW by using
a 40 Pin IDE cable. Or, Why is not the DMA mode of the DVD ROM limited to
Multi-Word DMA mode 2 in the Device manager?
