How do I ping my laptop from my desktop? I can't find
the IP address. Or does it even have one?

Steph,

Start - Run - "cmd". Run "ipconfig" in the command window.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Steph,

to be precise, not the laptop has an IP address, but its network
adapter. Each network port has its own IP address.

If you have a router, you can call up the router's configuration
and let it show you the list of IP addresses and computer names
in its ARP cache or in the NAT table.

But I see that Chuck has already pointed out the simple way to
find the IP address on the computer.
