How to paste into multiple cells ?

I have just added a field called subject and the first 100 records are the
same subject. In table view how do I copy the text to the clipboard and then
paste into the remaining 99 fields in one shot ? I highlighted the cells
and went paste but only one filled !

You're far better off using an Update query to do this, rather than trying
to cut and paste.

Douglas,
Had hoped it was simple !
I have just sussed how to get the exif file data for my digital pics into
access as a new table, just wanted to then add the subject matter,. A doddle
in excel but the searchability of access is better, dont want to find myself
spending ages with queries, criteria etc when trying to quickly add the
subjects. Admittedly I havennt used update queries, but have made normal
queries and its not 10 seconds work. To have to enter criteria to paste a
subjectA into 7 records, then another for subject B into the next 10 miss 5
then next 7, miss 2 next 3, and then another for subject C with seven
occurrences, very laborious when the only thing to base the criteria on in
the exif data is the file name _MG0236.cr2

Is it that there simply is no way of selecting cells and going paste into
selection ?

Always bugged me this lack of paste option.

If you copy 20 rows from a column you can paste 20 rows into a column. If you
want to copy one row and paste into 20 then no, Access does not work the same as
Excel because it is not a spreadheet application like Excel is.

Relational databases do not contain "cells". Relational databases contain
Tables, Rows, and Columns. If this is a one time event, export the data to
Excel- fill the column by pasting and then reimport it.

Update queries aren't all that involved. You could export to Excel and then
reimport, but before long you will have spent more effort trying to avoid
update queries than you would have spent learning them in the first place.
You would be doing yourself a favor if you were to check Help on the subject.

If it were up to me, I'd use Adobe PhotoAlbum or Picasa since they have
"tagging" of pictures built in.

I followed the simple instructions for an update query and it did NOT do anything.
I discovered a simple way on my own, though. Find/replace. You can even find a blank field by using "null" in the find field. Then in the replace field put what you want to copy to all the fields.

Wow, I wouldn't have even bothered posting this if I noticed how old the question was!
