HOW TO OPEN FILES BY TYPING ONLY THE FIRST FEW CHARACTER OF FILE N

The old version of word (97) would open the files only by typing the first
few characters of the file name. Can I do that wi/this version of word. It
doesn't make sense I would not be able to. Thanks for any and all help.
 
Still works in Word 2003.

they changed it a bit. Try pressing ENTER after typing the characters to
filter the file list in the Window.
