Susan yes Outlook is for .pst files.
Depending on the version of Outlook you have you can either :

Goto File / Open Personl folder or
File / Import and Exporrt and Import the .pst file into your Outlook.

..pst is basically the storage and backup file for Outlook Personal Folders
which store email and some settings.

btw- if you have Outlook already installed you/ If you goto Control panel /
Folder Options you would see the proper file association.

You NEVER have to use import to open a PST file, since PSTs are an
Outlook-native file type. Your advice is like telling someone s/he has to
import a text file with Notepad.

i tried to open the pst file but i recieve a message that it is not a personal folder file. BTW i had this pst from a different computer but outllok was still 2000

what can i do?

Try using a dedicated newsreader, eg Outlook Express, makes life easier

Run the inbox repair tool, scanpst.exe
On the assumption you havent moved/copied the pst and its not flaged as read
only
What size is yr pst, there is a limit under OL2K ie problems can occur if
larger than 1.7gb
