How to migrate outlook messages (pst file) to another email package?

I've just recovered the data off a dead laptop and the owner had a
bunch of messages and attachments in MS Outlook. She has since
converted her mail account to gmail and we want to unpack the pst file
and, if possible, move lots of it into gmail.

Any suggestions as to how?

Gmail using the Web interface or with Outlook Express or other email
client. The easiest solution might be to use Outlook as the client, and
simply retain the existing .Pst
