What I'm looking for is a way for a part of a web page to appear and then
disappear on schedule, with no intervention required on my part. This, so I
can, say, put up an announcement of an upcoming event 2 weeks in advance,
and then have it disappear again the day after the event.

You might think that FrontPage's scheduled include feature would do this;
all the documentation says it will, but it doesn't, unless you are around to
do a recalculate hyperlinks in order for the include to "take," which
defeats the whole purpose. (Once upon a time, there was a tool called Jimco
Publisher that would automatically do a recalculate hyperlinks on schedule,
but that doesn't work any more).

But there must be a way. Something reasonably simple, for us FrontPage
users?

The solution will depend on what OS your site is hosted on and if you can use ASP, ASP.net or PHP to
write a server-side script that can change content. You will need to learn the specific scripting
language to accomplish.

try the scheduled include page under Insert > Web Component > Included COntent.

there is an option for an included page to appear and disappear at a scheduled
date/time, and also the same with images.
