how to make a callout appear when hovering over Powerpoint shape

Have a presentation and want callouts to appear when hovering over autoshape
to give more detail in Powerpoint show mode. I don't want to clutter up a
presentation with too much info and I need to be flexible enough to follow
the flow of the presentation and the audience.

Its something similar.
Here's the steps:
1: Right click on the autoshape, click hyperlink.
2: Then, click place in this document, select the current slide.
3: Now, click ScreenTip, and type in the explanatory text you want. Click OK.

Yes, Chris - It should work with AutoShapes as well as text boxes. Since you
can apply a hyperlink to any shape, object, or text, this should work with
any autoshape you add to your slide.
