How do I logon explicitly as
administrator in XP?

My file system is NTFS and when I
install certain programs, they
want me to be logon as
administrator (using Run as
Admistrator command does not seem
to help)

You don't have to log on as the Administrator account; just log on with
any account that has administrative privileges - IOW isn't a Limited
account. Since you didn't say what the programs are, I can't be more
specific. This often happens with older programs that were written for
DOS and Win9x/ME because those programs don't understand the structures
of modern operating systems. Those programs need to have access to an
area of the operating system that is normally off-limits to Limited
users.
