Using MS Office 97 Excel

I am trying to do a simple add/subtraction formula and can't make it d
what I need.

I want to have one primary cell that won't change (ie: a1 will b
today's date, 12/23/03, and will have a list of dates on column B, an
in column C, want to show how many days between 12/23(wont' change) an
each line...

When I do a simple formula =a1+B2... and copy it down, a1 also change
:( ...

Any help? thanks

There are two types of cell references -- relative and
absolute. When a relative cell address in a formula is
copied, the actual address is modified to reflect the new
position on the worksheet. If an absolute cell address in
a formula is copied, it is NOT changed. An absolute cell
address uses dollar signs ($) to 'fix' the cell address.
For example, =$a$1+b2 when copied down to another range of
cells, it would yield =$a$1+c2

Check Help for "absolute" cell reference.

Add dollar($) signs to make it Absolute Reference.

=$A$1 + B1

$A1.......absolute column, relative row
A$1.......relative column, absolute row
$A$1......absolute row and column
A1........relative row and column

You can select the cell reference(A1) in the formula bar and hit F4 to cycle
through the combinations.

See Help on cell reference to learn more.
