I tried to install (boot) XP PRO, the normal way but failed, so the
technician installed it through DOS, he refused to tell me how, could someone
please tell me how can one install XP PRO through DOS?
Technicians who try to maintain their superiority by keeping
their little trade secrets are obnoxious. Find another
technician, one who shines through is ability to assist.
Here is how you can do it:
1. Boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk
(
www.bootdisk.com).
2. Use fdisk.exe and format.exe to create a 15 or 20 GByte
primary partition. Use fdisk.exe to mark it active.
3. Type these commands:
D:
cd \i386
winnt
This will install WinXP in the primary partition you just
created. When Windows is up and running, you can do
these things:
- Convert the primary partition from FAT32 to NTFS.
- Create a data partition.
- Change the drive letters as follows:
C: (for Windows, no change)
D: (for your data)
E: (for your CD drive)
