IIRC, before XP SP1 was released, you could download drivers for USB2.0 from
the MB manufacturer's websites...
Some time ago, possibly when SP1 was released, M$ changed the rules and
doesn't allow that anymore.
The only way to now get USB2.0 support + drivers is to install SP1, or via
Windows Update (Still may need SP1 installed to get them via Windows
Update).
Perhaps there is vital updated system files in SP1 that are required for
USB2.0 devices to function properly. ie, just installing the drivers for the
USB2.0 interface chip probably isn't enough for it to work correctly..
