WORKAROUNDS:
1. Install the Recovery Console prior to installing SP2.
or
*2. Install the recovery console using a copy of XP that has been
slipstreamed
(updated) with SP2:
a. Copy the contents of the I386 folder on your original XP CD to the >
harddrive
(example copy to "c:\xp-cd\i386")
b. Copy network install of XP SP2 to a new folder (c:\xp-sp2)
c. Extract SP2 files Start > Run... > CMD > c:\xp-sp2\xpsp2 -x (extract
to
c:\xp-xp2)
d. Run c:\xp-sp2\i386\update\update /s:c:\xp-cd to slipstream SP2 into
the > existing XP files
e. Run c:\xp-cd\i386\winnt32 /cmdcons as usual to install the Recovery
Console
*Thanks to Spencer Gagné ([email protected]) for the steps
above.
Colin Barnhorst said:It is not the cd in step a. It is the network install version of SP2 that
you can download from Microsoft. You can also use the SP2 execute file
from the SP2 cd if you have one.

but I don't know where the folder "XPSP2" is created (step c.)
Is that supposed to be "XP-CD" (created in step a.)?

I asked for. Another few weeks without recovery console option
on the boot won't hurt at all.
