I've found on the HP-site an exe-file for my all-in-one HP 5610 Officejet. I've downloaded it twice, but when I search my files, I can't find the file anywhere! I've even allowd to see all hidden files, but that didn't show the downloaded file. When I search, I also can't find it. Anyone?!

use Search to look for a file that begins with AIO

What I do sometimes is go back to the originating site and begin the
download process again. Then after clicking on Save it on my machine
asks me where I want to save it to with the default location already
selected.

I make a note of that and then cancel the download and go to that
folder to look for it -- I arrange in date order with the latest at the
top (so nice in VISTA that you don't have to select Details to sort by
Date and so on. The "buttons" are there all the time.

I just downloaded and installed what may be asimilar pack for my PS8250
and I hope you do not run into the problem I did, despite doing as it
says and unplugging the USB cable to the printer and switching the
printer off.

Part-way through the HP install procedure Windows Found New Hardware
popped up and tried to install a driver it could not find -- it was
looking for an inf file and it was not where it wanted to go, nor was
it anywhere else.

This may in part have come from my unplugging the cable from the
printer but not from the PC itself (too difficult round the back).

In the end I followed a different trail and used the Empty Printer List
fix given here in several messages where you delete a file called
INFCACHE.1 which is located in <drive>\windows\inf\ of VISTA. This may
relate only to HP products but after deleting that (and I had to change
Permissions) the installation actually restarted in the HP wizard and
completed the installation.

Strange days momma!

Do a search of this VISTA Print fax Scan folder for "Empty Printer
List" but if you can't find it let me know and I'll add a copy to this
thread.

Download it again and uncheck the little box that says something about "closing this window when the download completes" and then click on the "open location" button and see where it got to.

Hello everyone,
I've just found a very simple solution:
On the HP supportsite I clicked on the driver I needed for my All-in-one Officejet 5610 with my right mouse button en chose Save target as... and when it showed the window with the foldername where I wanted to store the file, I just typed .exe to make sure I could find it later. Guess what? No problem!!! I installed the driver and everything works: print, fax and scan!

It seems to me that the file on the HP support-page doesn't store on the computer with the proper extension, so Vista doesn't recognise it as an exe-file. Does that seem logical?
Anyway, I'm happy now. Good luck to everyone else with similar problems!
