Click View > Master > Slide Master.
Insert the watermark (it can be image or text) from there.
Close Master View once you are done.

True.. But I guess that depends on how you want the watermark to work then?
For instance, have it displayed on all the slides, not able to amend the
watermark, or to have it displayed prominently at all times.
