how to import data into sql using access 2000 projects

I can't seem to import data from an excel spreadsheet using access 2000
projects as the front end and sql as the back end. I get all the way to
choosing the existing tables and when I select the table I want to import
into, I get the error message "The table name is invalid." It is putting
dbo. in front of the actual table name. Is that why it doesn't recognize it
and if so, how can I get it to work?
