The Show/Hide ¶ button appears by default on the Standard toolbar. If you
are not seeing it, it may be that you still have adaptive menus enabled
and/or are displaying the Standard and Formatting toolbars on a single row.
Both these settings can be changed on the Options tab of Tools | Customize.
But you can also use Ctrl+* to toggle display of nonprinting characters. For
