You might be better off borrowing the product key to a copy of Office 2000
owned by a friend or acquaintance. Your software will not notice the
difference.

I may be wrong but I think that they do. You have to enter it to install. It
goes somewhere.

I thought that Office 2000 didn't keep a copy on the drive.

I have Office 2000, and Belarc does not give a key for it.
Unfortunately for the OP.

I stand corrected then. Sorry!

It's been quite sometime since I've done this to effectively change keys
in office 2000 and sorta forgot if it shows that "actual" key....I
believe it does, if not sorry to waste your time......................

1. On the Start menu, click Run.

2. In the Open box, type "Regedit" (without the quotation marks)
and then click OK.

3. Find the following registry key by either
(a) pasting the string below in to the Edit=>Find Window
and search '[x] Keys '

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

or (b) by manually getting to it by opening the
Registry tree by clicking on the following entries
First: The [+] sign next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Second: The [+] sign next to "Software"
Third: The [+] sign next to "Microsoft"
Fourth: The [+] sign next to "Windows"
Fifth: The [+] sign next to "CurrentVersion"
Sixth: The [+] sign next to "Uninstall"

Once to this "Uninstall" 'folder' look at the information in the
right hand pane and see if you have one or more
folders with "GUID" string names. [A GUID
(globally unique identifer) has 32 characters and
in a form similar to this {FC7E68ED-17A3-11C3-A123-00C04E6C9FC1}]

If you find only one subkey (GUID named folder)
Click on that folder (subkey) to select it and
go to step 4 below to continue

If you have more than one GUID named subkey (folder)select
each one and look in the right pane for "DisplayName"
and in the "Data" column to the right of "DisplayName"
look to see for it to name your version of MS Office.
When you find the correct subkey, keep it selected and
continue with Step 4.

4. For the selected {GUID} subkey folder, look in the
right pane in the "Names" column for the "ProductId"

Does for me.

Does Belarc refer to the number as a "key"?
What is the format?
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx (real product key)
or
xxxxx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxx

Belarc refers to Software Licenses and displays the PID (Product ID), and the appropriate 25 digit CD key that was used to install (and also is used in generating the PID).

Hmm! So now I don't know if I was incorrect in originally saying to use
Belarc, or wrong in saying I was incorrect and apologizing for the error!

I guess I am going to have to install it again on one of my systems (haven't
used it in 2 years) just to find out if I was correct in saying that Belarc
Advisor will show the product key! More wasted time!

After you posted it I tried it and it reported the PK and they pairs for
every app I have installed, even non-MS apps.

Thanks! You just saved me an hour, including roll back time!

Humm, now I wonder if it changes based on SR level? Those who have it
vs. those who don't?
