How to get rid of 'Starware' on the top of I.E.

Hi:
Every time I open I.E., 'Starware' ... one of
Toolbars'Menu appears. For this, I'm quite annoying,
because it takes space on I.E. panel, especially I want
to read large/long messages.
Then, I clicked 'Starware' on 'Toolbars' in my attempts
to not showing up next time when I open I.E. However,
there still and always comes 'Starware' on the top of
I.E. under needed menus/tools, such
as 'Search,' 'Favorites' and several more tools I always
need on daily basis.
My question is;
How to get rid of this tool, ...' Starware' on the top of
I.E.
Thanks for your help greatly in advance.

Hi:
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, this seems a sort 'advertisement' to make
people use. This, 'Starware' also wants me to replace
original 'Toolbar' I have. There is NO 'Starware'
on 'customize' section, because this is truly independent
toolbar that has NO any relation to 'original toolbar'
with I.E. Then, I can not 'remove' Starware due to this
problem, ... no 'Starware' on View/Tools/Customize.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and scroll down until you find
something that says "Starware". If you find it left-click once to highlight
it than click the remove button.

Hi Bob Eyster:
Thanks for your knowledgeable solution on this,
'Starware.' After having read your reply, I immediately
went to 'Control Panel/Add/Remove,' ... sure enough, it
works REALLY great! No longer 'Starware' that came to my
computer without permission last week or so. It was
quite annoying to see this, .... but with your
help/advice, I feel truly free from this, 'forcibly
intrusion.'
Have a GREAT NEW YEAR!!!

I glad it work for you.

FYI, there is a free program called AdAware from Lavasoft.com. Download this
program, install and run it. You'll be surprised what Spyware it will find
on your PC.

Windows 98SE > START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
You can remove the program by uninstalling it there. I had also done a
search and the application is related to "Comet." After removing the
program per above, I did another search. 1st search brought up two
locations, one with a star by it. After uninstalling, the star file was
gone but the other remained: 6Kbs .. am thinking I can just get rid of
this as well as when it was uninstalled, the application said there
might be some files remaining. This would be up to you, if anyone knows
for sure, it would be nice to know if this minor file can also be gotten
rid of without harm.
thanks

Starware is a menace. A vicious hijacker of Google. They're stealing
their fine work and replacing Google Toolbar searches with their own
promotions.

Can't find it under ANY name in Add/Remove PGMS + Ad-aware or Spybot
don't do it.

What's up? Any suggestions??

Go to Microsoft and download their new spyware beta program. It has a fixer
in for hijacking the IE. Window update has a link on it I think. Or just go
to Microsoft.com and look for it.

You might try the new MS antispyware program, but it is *beta*. That
means "not cooked yet". I would not install a beta program on a
production machine.

Make sure you have the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot and
that you've updated their reference files. Scan with them in Safe Mode.
If that doesn't remove the toolbar, use HijackThis, also in Safe Mode.
HijackThis is an expert tool. Here are links to a tutorial and sites
where you can post your HJT logs and get expert help (not in this
newsgroup).

Funny....... As long as I had Windows, I thought it was a beta
program. Patch-Patch-Patch
Then you don't understand how operating system maintenance is done. All
operating systems (and other software) have holes. New vulnerabilities
are constantly being discovered. A responsible software mftr. patches
their product and makes the patches available for free to users. One of
the reasons for using a particular distro in Linux, for example, is
that someone else is creating and testing patches to take care of
vulnerabilities. You can always read all the security news daily and
get the patched programs yourself, but a distro creator like SuSE or
Mandrake will have done the heavy lifting for you. Just like MS does.
