how to get rid of old desktop picture

here's a poser: how on earth do you get rid of the old desktop picture you
had which still appears when you start up and shut down the pc???

Hm? Right click on the desktop, choose "Properties", on the "Background"
tab select "None" from the top of the list of background pictures. Click
"OK" and then find the picture where ever it is (like in My documents\my
pictures) and delete it.

Just a guess mind you.

Did my suggestion work? Or are you just being obtuse?

You can also go to settings, control panel, display, background tab, then
choose a different picture or none at all. You can get here also by right
clicking on the desktop and choosing Active Descktop, customize my desktop.
