How to get IE to use other than Windows Media Player

I would like to use another program (Winamp) to playback URL's with an mp3
extension in IE6.
How does IE determine which program to use to playback mp3 audio files and
mpeg video files?
Is there some registry entry I need to change, or a tool to do this?

you should be able to open winamp and find the options
menu. there you should be able to select what files
winamp will open. if you have a windows media player
installed you can also go there and make sure what files
it will open

After further experimenting, I find that after I select mp3 file types in
Windows Media Player setup, IE6 will play them with Media Player,
similarily, after I select mp3 file types in QuickTime setup, IE6 will play
them with QuickTime.

My question is how does IE determine which player to use, is there a
registry key that it looks at?
