Andy,
From My Computer, right click the floppy drive and select format. You can
choose the option to create a MS-DOS boot disk. The disk that XP creates has
only the files necessary to boot the system to a dos prompt. If you need the
boot disk to flash a bios, or update firmware, the boot disk will fill the
bill for you. If you need a boot floppy with more options, follow the link
