How to Force UDMA5

G

Garry Clarke

I have two HDs that are both UDMA5 but they are both operating at only
transfer mode DMA2. I have tried following advice from several posts on MS
support site, eg uninstalling device driver for Primary IDE channel,
rebooting etc.

When the PC boots I pause the screen early on and it shows the 2 drives with
their model numbers, then LBA, DMA 2.

Does that mean there is something wrong even before Windows loads?

My MB is Gigabyte 7N400 Pro 2. The Bios does not have an option for
disabling ultra DMA support.

Don't know what else to look for.

cheers

The obvious? Are you using an 80pin UDMA100 cable? If your motherboard
detects a 40pin cable, it will only detect DMA Mode 2 (UDMA33).

Sorry, I should have mentioned before, yes I am using an 80 pin cable, and I
changed it with another to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the
first cable.
