How to fix Internet Explorer 6 crashing when visinting web sites

Someone posted the registry fix for it but not how to implement it.
This is for those who want to self-fix.

Here's what you do:

1. Start > Run > type in notepad.exe and press enter.
2. Copy and paste into the notepad body the following

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_PROTECT_DECOMPRESSION_FILTER_FROM_ABORT_KB942367]
"*"=dword:00000001

3. File > Save As

A: File Name = IE6-crash-fix.reg
B: Save As Type: All Files
C: ANSI

4. This will save it to your desktop and should have a green cube-ish
icon. Double click it and it will ask you to "Add the information..."
so just click OK.

Why don't you refer to the MS Knowledge Base.

Although "ANSI" works in this case, it doesn't make any sense and is not
mandatory. "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" files are not meant for
non-unicode systems (Win9x, WinMe) anyway.
4. This will save it to your desktop

Nope. The Notepad default Save-As path is "My Documents".

Sure that's easy to do, but some of the folks here aren't computer
savvy like the techies and yourself. I've no doubt people can follow
directions but I have no problems dumbing down what Microsoft
publishes to make it easier for non-tech people. Here's hoping the
boys and girls at Redmond do it via Windows Update so they don't HAVE
to refer to a KB article and it's a transparent and non-interactive
fix. You listening Redmond??? Helloooooo!
