How to enter a date in DD-MM-YYYY format

hi,
I wish to enter a date in DD-MM-YYYY format.
generally it takes input as MM-DD-YY n then converts into display fomrat .
is there any way i can chnage the way excel reads the input .
please help

Generally, the format that Excel recognizes as a date is determined by the
settings in your Regional and Language Options control panel (for Win 7 and
earlier).

However, if you use the Text To Columns feature, you can convert dates of
other forms.

Also, if you import data from a file instead of opening the file directly,
you have the same option.

You can change the format of the column to "custom". Type in dd/mm/yyyy. Then just enter the date(09/15/2013) and Excel will reformat it to the customization you made.
