How to enlarge my C: drive?

G

Guest

Is it possible to make enlargement of my C: drive using PartitionMagic SE 6.0? My C: partition has only 3% FREE space. My D:
partition has 8.97GB and E: partition has 27.4GB. I want to give about 10GB of my E: to C: or much better move the whole E: to C:
if possible with all file intact. TIA

Partition Magic 7.01 and above are fully compatible with Windows XP. Earlier versions are not compatible with the latest version of NTFS file system. If you are using the fat32 file system with Windows XP it should be alright to use PM ver 6.0 from the floppy disks.

You should be eligible for a discounted price to upgrade from PM 6 to PM 8.
Check the Symantec site to see if you can.

Hi Richard,
Yes, I used FAT32 only and I still have PM in CD and I have it installed in my PC. My real problem is I don't know how to make it
work. I can open it in DOS but not successful in doing anything so I always end up NOT Apply and quit --- nothing were changed.

Can you show me the way? TIA

First off, lose the HTML. This is a plain text. Secondly, what part of the
phrase "only Partition Magic 7.01 and above are compatible with XP" are you
having problems understanding, exactly.

Oh, and by the way, PM6 SE will *NOT* qualify you for an upgrade because it
was sold with a drive and OEM licences do *NOT* qualify for upgrades. Oh,
and Partition Magic doesn't exist anymore.

The following is a quote from the XP upgrade advisor:

Partition Magic 6.0
<Partition Magic 6.0 has a known compatibility issue with this
version of Windows and might not run as expected. This program
has difficulties with NTFS partitions. For more information,
contact PowerQuest.>

My first recommendation is to read the PM manual before proceeding. The
second recommendation is to research whether or not there are
compatibility issues running in any mode with XP before proceeding. The
third recommendation, if you do decide to proceed, is to make certain
you back up all your data. If you're running XP Professional, you can
easily backup your data with the XP Backup Utility (Ntbackup.exe). You
can also create an Automatic System Recovery (ASR) backup using this
utility that may help you recover from a failure. If you're using XP
Home, it's necessary to install the Backup Utility. Look for the file
Ntbackup.msi on your installation CD or on the HD to install it.
Unfortunately, with XP Home, it's possible to create an ASR backup, but
there is no option to restore it. Consider another recovery option if
you have XP Home.

Step 1. Backup all important data.
Step 2. Use imaging software to create a full system backup of your drive.
This is very important because if PM screws up, and it can do that, you
certainly want to be able to quickly restore your system.

Check this tutorial I put together a few years ago for a friend of mine
http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/using_partition_magic_5.htm It refers to PM 5
but there is very little difference between 5 and 6 when you boot from the
floppy set.

Partition Magic most certainly DOES still exist. It is no longer
produced or retailed through PowerQuest, but Symantec still carries
it, oddly enough, under the name of Partition Magic.

Go to the Symantec website and look for yourself. It's there. Go to
a store's software shelf and look - you'll probably find it there.

Hi Harry, et al,
Thank you very much for your nice Tutorial. I noticed your version 5 is much better than mine because my version is only a Special
Edition (SE) -6 came bundled with my Motherboard. This SE is a stripped down software --- very simple and NOT complete.

These are all I got --- please refer to your last Figure 8 in your Tutorial:
1. No Yellow and White bar.
2. No 2 set of Double Arrow-heads.
3. No Icons at the bottom (Create new partition, Resize partitions, etc.)
4. I got the same Menu bar and all Icons not showing their name when I hover at it.
5. All other features are the same with yours and available. Now you can see my PM-SE6.

Yes, I did used it to do my 3 partitions many year ago --- now my C: partition is getting smaller can I merge my E: partition into
my C:? I want to make my C: BIGGER with all files being intact. I don't want to do partition this time BUT re-partition or reverse
partition.

For all others who are concerned --- THANK YOU! --- Please don't worry for me or about backup important data, upgrade, reading PM
manual and other things. I did read and found nothing about re-partition topic --- that's why I came here. My question again: Can
you tell me about re-partitioning? Such as; 3 partitions make into two or how I could make my C: partition bigger? Please
concentrate to my needs only.

Please accept my sincerest Thanks,
--Rino
