How to edit files in vista?

When I try to install and use Visual C++, I’m asked to edit files
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/usingpsdk/)

I try to do this by opening the file with Notepad, editing and then saving.
This does not work. A message appears: Make sure the path and file name are
correct. But they are correct.

So how does one edit files in vista?

Thanks in advance, Gerhard

Try right clicking Notepad and pick Run as administrator.

I tried right clicking Notepad, but I don't see "run as administrator"
Thanks, Gerhard

I'm not on my Vista PC right now so I can't confirm this but usually Run as
administrator is an option. Try typing notepad.exe in the search box.
Notepad should show up in the results. Right click on it and see id Run as
administrator is available. Another possible option is to run an elevated
cmd prompt and run notepad from there. If all else fails logon in safe mode
to an administrator account.

It appears to me that RC1 is different from Beta 2 in that if you activate
the administrator account, you are given the option of using it to log in
from the login screen. Beta 2 did not do that without some help, I don't
believe.

Maybe whatever change was made also helped the search function work better.

Great. It worked, when I started with Notepad, right click run as
administrator, open the file, edit, save.
I did it first the other way around: opened the file with Notepad (and could
not right click run as administrator).
Thank you very much
Gerhard
