How to Easily Transfer IE Favorites to Other PCs?

K

Will be helping a friend to test Alpha/Beta versions of FireFox, and
Opera 9.

I normally use IE as my base browser and my Favorites can usually be
transfered OK to a new install of FireFox or Opera.

The testing will be done on a different PC so my question is, it there
a freeware app that will take IE Favorites to either Floppy or USB Card
so they can be transferred to a clean install of IE or even better any
browser.

Did a search but so far have found nothing using "save browser
favorites"
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q="save+browser+favorites"
"save InternetExplorer favorites"
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q="save+InternetExplorer+favorites"&qt_s=Search
using "save Internet Explorer favorites"
http://groups.google.com/group/bit....t+Explorer+favorites"&rnum=1#e7769c793eeb579c
was able to find some recommendations "Favorites is just a folder on
the hard drive, specifically, C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Favorites
I would just have them copy that to a jump drive (or similar). This is
what
I do to keep my favorites. When I want to use any of the favorites, I
just
double click on the icons in that folders on my jump drive...a
voila...the
web site appears." but no specific applications.

Also found "IE5 has an import/export function (under the file menu)
that can be used to
create a single HTML file format - the resulting export file is
compatible
with Netscape and can be used for simple backups, transfers and
re-imports
as you like. (export may not capture 'non-standard' Favorites contents
like
*.exe powertoys or *.CDF files.) ".

Maybe just copying the Windows Internet Explorer Favorites File is
best? I did a quick check and have over 2.6MB so USB seems only
option.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ken

The quickest and easiest way is moving them on a USB card/drive.

I setup and install computers for a living and have had to transfer
the IE Favorites folder hundreds of times when users are getting
a new computer or hard drive. I usually copy them to a network
drive, but when I'm at a remote location that isn't on the network
I just copy the Favorites folder to a USB drive.

Why not use the IE export function and save them as CSV to the USB
drive. Then you can juggle with them when you import to Firefox, etc.

The free Columbine bookmark merge will do this: it will convert IE and/or
netscape type bookmarks, and will also store them as an html files, or
in its own script language, which can output them to whatever you need.

My preference is to convert favorites to an html page, which can easily
be transferred to other PCs.

IE\ File Import\Export, Export Favorites to a place of your choosing.

All I do is find the folder doccuments and settings (Your folder)
(favorites) and drag them to a disc
and then do the same in the new system.
I also have a backup that way...

Continue on, now. Tell them how to read all those e-mail messages
from OE/IE they now have on a CD. ;)

Foxpro, but since it's not freeware I won't go any further.

Hi,

See if this will work for you:

Of late, I've been using Google's latest beta toolbar; which has a
Bookmark button. This allows you to import your IE favorites into it;
You can tag all your favorites as way of organizing them just like you
would do in flickr. I've been using since they released it and I can't
go back to the original IE favorites. If installing toolbar isn't an
option, you could still access your bookmarks via the web -
http://www.google.com/bookmarks

Try it and if possible post your feedback for the benefit of others.

I'm very certain that Yahoo Toolbar and Microsoft Windows Live toolbar
provide toolbar + web favorites but I haven't tested them.

http://favorites.live.com

Cheers.
