hi
this is one of those quarks about MSQ that doesn't make sense. the parameter
button seems to be for editing criteria not establishing criteria. in order
to edit , you must first HAVE criteria. you have to set that up in the MSQ
dialog.
assuming you have 2003, on the menu bar
data>inport external data>edit query
click the next button 3 time until the last dialog.
select option button view or edit query in Microsoft query then click finish.
the MSQ dialog will pop up. on the menu bar, click criteria>add criteria.
enter your cirter.
on the menu bar>file>return data to excel
you now have critera and the parameter button will be enabled.
