Hello all. I have asked this question many other places and seems no one
knows how to correct it.

I have a Seagate Sata HDD I want to connect to a Sata port on the SiI3112 on
my Abit IC7 G. The problem is when I view the policies of the drive in the
device manager the optimize for disk performance is checked and grayed out,
yet the option to disable or enable write cache underneath is doesn't even
exist.

Obtain the Dskcache.exe Tool to Configure the "Power Protected" Write Cache Option

I have been at this page before and most of it is jibberish. I built this
computer with an OEM copy of windows and though I e-mail MS about the tool, I
wonder just how much help I will receive from them.

One thing I don't understand Is when I have my HDD connected to the Intel
SATA controller, I CAN turn OFF the Write Cache, I just can't when it is
connected to the SiI3112. Must have something to do with Windows seeing my
Sata HDD as a SCSI when connected to the Silicon Image 3112

I got hold of the dskcache tool and when I ran the tools without any
switches, and I got this error message

Error getting Write Cache value.
(1117) The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

I thinking about buying an pci Sata card and hopefully that will allow me to
control the write cache.
